Last year my students participated in the first Hour of Code and LOVED it! So when I got the email that the organizers at Code.org were doing it again this year, I signed my classes up! Beginning next week, December 8-14, the organizers hope to have 100,000,000 students participate in the program to teach computer science. The goal of this group is to promote computer programming and help students realize that it is something that everyone is capable of doing. By signing your class up, you get emails with links to games that allow your students to play with coding language by programming light robots, tanks, monsters, aliens, and more. This year they have even added a programming game using Anna & Elsa (of "Frozen" fame.") There are games for every age from kindergarten to adult. If your students already used Khan Academy, they have a mission for computer programming as part of the Hour of Code too. So many options and so easy to plan. Consider signing your class up at: http://code.org/
Below I have included the websites that I have played around with and also given my own quick explanation (in some cases, I have shared age-level suggestions too.) One word of advice: Make sure that all of these games work on your school computers if you have strong filters set up. There is at least one of these that my students will only be able to access from home due to restrictions at school.
Check it out and have fun!!
